Background Information: 

Brief Description: This activity aims to develop students’ understanding of concepts related to sinking and floating and specifically, it prompts them to examine which factors affect the behavior of objects in water. Firstly, a scenario is introduced in which two students need help to complete a set of challenges in a science fair. During the activity, students will formulate hypotheses and research questions and conduct virtual and physical experiments to identify why some objects sink and some objects float.

Age Range: 9-11 years old

Subject(s): Mathematics, Physics

Didactical Hours: 3 didactical hours (45 minutes each)

Learning objectives: The students will:

- Formulate research questions and hypotheses
- Learn why some objects float and some sink
- Learn how to conduct a fair experiment
