Digi-Science aims to support the necessary change towards technology-enhanced learning by providing not only the necessary introductory tools and resources for online and/or blended learning but also the accompanying vision for the promotion of deep learning and genuine equity while dealing with learners from diverse cultural and social backgrounds. Thus, the open educational resources accommodate different learning speeds, styles and needs for students while the framework produced focuses on developing key competences (especially digital competences, scientific/engineering skills, learning to learn, social and civic competences) while also fostering equity, gender balance, promoting inclusion, handling diverse classrooms and addressing differences in relation to access and use by underrepresented groups offering concrete guidelines and examples of use.
To introduce equity, inclusion and diversity in online, distant and blended learning environments Digi-Science offers guidelines to support gender balance and diverse classrooms, address differences in relation to the access (for example students with limited access to internet) and use by underrepresented groups. Dιgi-Science also offers an overview of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to accommodate students with diverse learning needs so that they can readily access key ideas and concepts (e.g., by giving learners multiple ways to acquire information and knowledge; by providing learners alternatives for demonstrating what they know; and by offering multiple means of engagement to increase motivation). Focus is put on different aspects of inclusive learning, like enabling slow and fast learners, social/cultural inclusion, students’ competence profiles and different learning styles.
